Become an Academic Mentor

Academic mentors are students selected to participate in a week of intensive training, and are highly qualified to provide academic support and guidance to residents, especially during their time transitioning to Salem State. Peabody Hall and Bowditch Hall offer three AMs each to support first year students while Marsh Hall offers five AMs to support sophomore students.

Academic mentors place a high priority on academic success and serve as role models for the students they serve. AMs responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing academically focused programs and bulletin boards within the residence halls
  • Holding office hours to meet with students to discuss homework and general study tips
  • Helping organize student groups within the halls
  • Publishing a bi-weekly academic support newsletter
  • Coordinating the study bucks program
  • Facilitating the cornerstone project in the halls
