Become an Academic Mentor

There are three academic mentors (AM) assigned to Peabody Hall and three to Bowditch Hall to work with first year students. There are four academic mentors assigned to Marsh Hall to work with sophomore students. Academic mentors are students selected to particiapte in a week of intensive training, and are highly qualified to provide academic support and guidance to residents, especially during their time transitioning to Salem State. 

Academic mentors place a high priority on academic success and serve as roel models for the students they serve.  AMs responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing academically focused programs and bulleting boards within the residence halls
  • Holding office hours to meet with students to discuss hoemwork and general study tips
  • Help organize student groups within the halls
  • Publish a bi-weekly academic support newsletter
  • Coordinate the "Study Bucks" program
  • Facilitate the Cornerstoen Project in the halls
