Become an Academic Mentor

There are three academic mentors (AM) assigned to Peabody Hall and three to Bowditch Hall to work with first year students. There are five academic mentors assigned to Marsh Hall to work with sophomore students. Academic mentors are students selected to participate in a week of intensive training, and are highly qualified to provide academic support and guidance to residents, especially during their time transitioning to Salem State.

Academic mentors place a high priority on academic success and serve as role models for the students they serve. AMs responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing academically focused programs and bulletin boards within the residence halls
  • Holding office hours to meet with students to discuss homework and general study tips
  • Help organize student groups within the halls
  • Publish a bi-weekly academic support newsletter
  • Coordinate the "Study Bucks" program
  • Facilitate the Cornerstone Project in the halls
