Returning Student Housing Information
All Salem State undergraduate students who wish to live on campus are welcome to visit residence life to discuss space availability and options. Students who wish to live on campus must first pay a $225 deposit either at the bursar’s office or online through TouchNet (follow the links in Navigator).
Selecting a Room without a Roommate
Room selection is your opportunity to select a living space for the upcoming academic year. You are strongly urged to make every attempt to choose a room and a roommate. In the event that you do not have a roommate, you may still participate in room selection. You will be assigned with another student in a double with the same residence hall. This will occur during the room selection process or over the summer.
Consolidation of Vacancies
A student with a vacancy in their chosen room can expect to be consolidated in order to make room for the incoming first-year students and returning students. This may involve reassignment to a room in another building. Please communicate with your roommate any changes in your status to help him or her plan accordingly and to prepare for consolidation.
Lottery numbers are randomly assigned by computer and will be sent to you via email. Lottery numbers will be sent to all current first-year, sophomore and junior residents who have paid their housing deposit before March 1. In order to receive a date and time for room selection you must complete a license agreement. If you did not receive a lottery number and have paid your housing deposit as well as filled out a license agreement come to the residence life office to speak with the assistant director of housing operations. If you are currently commuting or on a leave and you wish to participate, go to the residence life office, located in Atlantic Hall first floor.
Two or more students who choose to live together in a double, triple, quad, or apartment may make their selection according to the best priority number of any member for the group. Each member of the group must be registered with 12 or more credits for the fall semester to participate in room selection.
Roommate Changes after Room Selection
If your roommate cancels during the academic year or during the summer, you will be assigned a new roommate or be reassigned to another room and roommate. It is wise, therefore, to discuss with your prospective roommates their plans for the upcoming academic year. The residence life office reserves the right to consolidate vacancies. You will not be able to maintain your double as a double-single.
If you have been accepted into themed housing, you are not eligible to participate in room selection. Themed housing assignments are at a later date coordinated through the residence life office. A student interested in theme housing must complete the online themed housing application by March 1, but will not be invited to room selection or distributed a lottery number.
