A Week in the Life...

Michelle Dunn '10, Psychology
School of Arts & Science

  • Student Michelle Dunn '10 smiling into the camera. "I chose Salem State because as a transfer student I was looking for a school where there was a lot of school pride and a sense of community, unlike the college I was previously attending. A few professors told me about all of the amazing ways to get involved so I decided to come here!"
  • Dunn '10 in front of her computer at her work study job in academic affairs. "My work study position is in the academic affairs office on campus. I work about 15 hours a week and do office support projects. From this job I have gained a new sense of respect for the faculty and staff at Salem State, as well as it has helped me focus on my responsibilities as a student."
  • Michelle Dunn '10 standing in front of her dorm. "I am the executive director of the residence hall association, a student-run group that supports residential students. I've met so many wonderful people who are extremely driven to make living on campus a great experience. I also like having my voice heard on issues that students may have with on-campus living."
  • Michelle Dunn '10 studying in the café on campus. "My academic experience at Salem State has been challenging. I am majoring in psychology. The professors do not let you slack off. They care about the students and want you to get a great education. The coursework is a lot of work, and I've learned so much."

A Week in the Life...

Quin Gonnell '09, History; double minors in secondary education and political science
School of Arts & Science

  • Quin Gonnell '09 standing outside his dorm. "I grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and it's my dream to become either a college professor or a politician, most likely a congressman. That's why I'm majoring in history and have double minors in secondary education and political science. I want to do something noble with my life."
  • Quin Gonnel '09 in Washington, D.C., with picture of the Capitol building in the background. "My internship in Senator Kennedy's office gave me such insight into the way government is run. On my last day, Senator Kennedy’s chief education counsel offered me a job on his support staff if I decide not to go right on to graduate school; the skills I've learned at Salem State were really valued in Washington. I guess I'm a Washington insider now!"
  • Quin Gonnell '09 standing at podium outdoors for a student rally. "As Student Government Association president, I keep very busy. Each Tuesday I chair an SGA meeting of about 40 student senators and we work collectively to ensure that every student's concern is heard and resolved. I've tried to bring campus activism to a new level; our recent—and very successful—efforts to enroll new voters convinced me that student apathy is becoming a thing of the past."
  • Gonnell '09 standing outside his dorm. "I used to be a resident assistant and am now serving as an academic mentor in Peabody Hall, where I live. Essentially, I'm a tutor—primarily in history, English and political science—for fellow dorm mates who need a little extra assistance. I consider myself a good writer and enjoy the opportunity to help those who need an occasional hand."
