Goals of the School of Arts and Sciences

Primary Goals

• Goal 1
  To provide, in a quality environment, all students at Salem State College with a liberal arts and sciences education and to provide School of Arts and Sciences Department majors with excellentAcademic preparation in their chosen disciplines. disciplines.
• Goal 2
  To advise the Curriculum Committee in the creation of a core curriculum that reflects the current mission statement of the SOAS and to assist SOAS departments in actively reevaluating their participation in core curriculum offerings.
• Goal 3
  To continue to build a well-qualified teaching staff who have access to all resources necessary for teaching and to provide substantial opportunities for professional development on and off campus.
• Goal 4
  To create new undergraduate programs within and across academic disciplines.
• Goal 5
  To encourage outreach and community service by faculty, staff and students as appropriate to the mission of the school, departments or programs.

Support Goals

• Goal 6
  To provide sufficient support staff for the teaching mission of the School.
• Goal 7
  To acquire new and improve existing space, equipment, teaching materials, technology and supplies to allow the departments to provide outstanding and varied educational opportunities for students and staff.
• Goal 8
  To develop internal and external connections to identify and obtain additional sources of income in support of school and department missions.
