STRATEGIC PLAN
SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
GOAL 8.
To develop internal and external connections to identify and obtain
additional sources of income in support of school and department
missions.
Short-term Objectives:
- Focus on alumni/ae for support of new programs and interdisciplinary
efforts.
- Form a collaborative effort with other colleges and educational
programs to seek joint funding.
- Continue to use the Grants Office, to support academic programs
and research.
- Provide release time for grant writing and grant administration.
- Explore the feasibility of establishing a School of Arts and Sciences
Speakers Series.
- Encourage departments to create and utilize own resources.
- Involve School of Arts and Sciences faculty in the institutional
budget processes at the highest level.
- Develop a network of alumni/ae and current students to support
the needs of Arts and Sciences.
- Identify and cultivate community leaders who have an affiliation
with Arts and Sciences to serve on advisory committees for departments
and programs and to assist with fund-raising.
- Continue to develop internship and service learning opportunities
for students in Arts and Sciences departments and programs.
- Expand membership and involvement with professional organizations/networks
at the national, state and local levels.
- Encourage use of faculty and students as resources by College
administration.
- Develop and encourage opportunities for student-faculty interaction
(in a variety of settings).
- Fund and develop interdisciplinary conferences, seminars, colloquia,
and the like.
- Establish faculty lounges in each main building (Meier Hall, Sullivan
Building, Academic Building South Campus, OKeefe Center, and
Harrington Building) to promote faculty communication.
- Fund jointly sponsored visiting lectureships.
- Maintain a comprehensive Arts and Sciences newsletter to distribute
news and information in a timely way.
Long-term Objectives:
- Increase revenues from specific departmental and/or individual
activities when admission is charged. Explore other activities
that may lead to generation of additional revenues.
- Form more partnerships with business and industry, e.g. the Salem
Partnership and similar bodies.
