STRATEGIC PLAN
SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
GOAL 3.
To continue to build a well-qualified teaching staff who have
access to all resources necessary for teaching and to provide
substantial opportunities for professional development on and
off campus.
Short-term Objectives:
- Inventory current faculty and staff training, skills, resources,
and professional needs.
- Develop for faculty and staff new in-service opportunities concerning
teaching methodologies.
- Expand teaching/research/advising resources through the Internet.
- Implement contractual professional development programs as appropriate.
- Develop a recruitment and retention strategy for hiring and maintaining
diverse faculty.
- Encourage conversion of temporary full-time and part-time positions
to full-time tenure track positions.
- Seek to involve new and part-time faculty in School and department
activities wherever possible.
- Develop a training program for easy access to technology for all
staff.
- Continue updating library holdings and information access.
- Provide adequate release time and resources for faculty professional
development.
Long-term Objectives:
- Determine the skills and resources needed by faculty to teach
effectively.
- Encourage faculty and staff to formulate their own professional
development plans encompassing individual and department needs.
- Align resources and support for teaching staff to attend seminars
and conferences, to conduct research and obtain sabbaticals.
- Determine and hire the number of faculty needed for each department
based on student involvement and curriculum demands.
