Description: This workshop series is designed for new and veteran classroom and special education teachers who are interested in expanding their repertoire of lessons in order to help students prepare for the 2007 Mathematics MCAS. The program consists of four 2.5-hour sessions, each dedicated to one of the major strands in mathematics. Participants will look at past questions on the Grade 3 and 4 Mathematics MCAS exam to analyze the mathematics behind the assessment. Appropriate manipulatives and hands-on activities to address these patterns will be investigated. Participants will leave each session with copies of handout materials as well as copies of former MCAS questions for that strand to use in preparation for the 2007 MCAS. Participants will be encouraged and time will be provided to share lesson plans appropriate to these units of study.
