Workshop #1:
Multiple Intelligences in the Classroom (Grade k -12)

Description: This workshop will focus
primarily on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence(s) Theory and its possible
application(s) in the classroom. We will compare
and contrast MI theory with other child psychology/development theories;
discussing the appropriateness of current educational policy and practice. Participants will examine the difference between learning
styles and learning preferences and discuss how to identify and distinguish
between the two in their students. While some of the
focus will be on theory, a significant portion of the session will revolve
around the integration of MI into teacher’s lesson/unit design.
Workshop #2: Forensics for the Middle and High School Teacher

Description This workshop will focus on various techniques
used in forensic science. Activities have applications
in biology, chemistry, and physics, and can be easily adapted to meet the
needs of a particular science curriculum. Participants
in this workshop will perform a number of activities including practicing
such techniques as crime scene analysis and evidence collection, fingerprinting
techniques and analysis, blood typing, blood spatter analysis, and ear print
analysis. Pertinent websites and videos will be used
and discussed as they relate to a specific topic. Handouts,
which include background information and instructions for performing these
activities, will be given.

Workshop #5: Preparing for the Biology MCAS

Description: This workshop is designed for new and veteran teachers
alike who are interested in expanding their repertoire of lessons in order
to help students prepare for the Biology MCAS exam. The
workshop will focus on standards-based lessons dedicated to each of the major
strands in the biology frameworks. Lessons will include
laboratory investigations, kinesthetic activities, writing exercises, graphing
lessons, and internet resources. Participants will leave the session with
copies of all lessons and handout materials as well as copies of all former
MCAS questions organized by strand to use in preparation for the coming exam.
Workshop #6: Chemistry and the Frameworks: Demos and Activities
(grades 7-12)

Description: Excite your classes, enhance your students' understanding
and do it all with frameworks-based lessons. This workshop
will focus on chemistry-based demonstration and activities that are easy
to set-up and take down and which use every-day materials.
All activities are designed to help students’ learning of concepts
outlined in the Massachusetts Frameworks for Chemistry.
