Description: The Lesson Study course is focused on instruction and learning that occurs everyday in mathematics classrooms.  Lesson study brings teachers together to do mathematics, investigate mathematics, and discuss how to create meaningful and challenging lessons.  It is based upon the Japanese educational culture of “research lessons”.

All participants focus their energy on student learning in the classroom. Together they develop, implement, and refine the lesson being studied. Conversations focus greatly on what makes good mathematics instruction.

The course content is based upon work with Educational Development Center and the National Science Foundation.  The goals of this course are to create a tradition of lesson improvement and to offer teachers a friendly, supportive arena where they can share ideas about mathematics instruction, create effective lessons, and evaluate them thoroughly to ensure future success.

We welcome mathematics teachers who would like to be a part of this program to sign up as a team (not required). Teams can be made up of teachers from various (mathematics) subject matter and grade levels.  Ideally, teams should be composed of teachers from the same school. An additional goal of the program is for teams to help introduce the basics of Lesson Study within their school.
