Intel Teach to the Future

The goal of the Intel® Teach to the Future Essentials Course is to instruct classroom teachers on how to promote project-based learning and effectively integrate the use of computers into their existing curriculum to support student achievement.  This course consists of hands-on instruction delivered in ten curricular modules plus additional time to complete products.  Teachers are provided with all the necessary curriculum materials free of charge.  Teachers will return to school with a product that includes a unit plan with student learning objectives aligned to state and national standards, a student multimedia presentation sample, a student publication sample, a student website sample, teacher handouts to support the unit, and evaluation tools.

Teachers taking all ten sessions in the Intel Program and completing a unit plan will earn 50 PDP’s. Additionally, participants completing the Intel course requirements may apply for three non-degree graduate credits from Salem State College ($300 cost.)

 

Time: All workshops will run for 2.5 hours from 3:15 to 5:45 PM.  There will be an assignment for each workshop day that will be equivalent to approximately 2.5 hours of workshop time.  If a participant is unable to complete the program, PDP’s will be awarded for the completed class work.

 

Intel Teach To the Future Overview Session: October 10th.

Description: Participants will begin the Intel program with an introduction to the basics of the ten week modules and create portfolio folders for efficient file management.   They will then explore essential and unit questions, view unit plan templates, discuss copyright laws and fair use guidelines, and create a works cited page. 

 

Workshop #1: Internet Search Strategies and Website Evaluation (1 Day – 5 PDP’s.)

Day:  October 17                   

Description: Participants will discuss higher order internet search strategies, web-site evaluation tools, and shared-drive capabilities. Time will be given to explore internet sources for classroom presentations and student research sites. 

 

Workshop #2: PowerPoint (2 Days – 10 PDP’s)

Days: October 24 and November 7    

Description: Participants will become familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint®, a powerful and engaging multimedia presentation tool.  Microsoft PowerPoint® can be used to design, create, print, share, and deliver presentations.  Participants will create a student-sample presentation and a teacher-based presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint®.

 

Workshop #3: Publisher (2 Days – 10 PDP’s)

Days: November 14 and November 28          

Description: Participants will become familiar with Microsoft Publisher®, a desktop publishing program that allows users to create brochures, newsletters, certificates, flyers, invitations, business cards, etc…. Participants will create a student-sample brochure or newsletter and teacher classroom newsletter or flyer. 

 

Workshop #4: Creating WebQuests (1 Day – 5 PDP’s)

Day: December 5

Description: Participants will explore the possibilities and benefits of using WebQuests to engage students in higher-order thinking skills.  Participants will view sample WebQuests and have the opportunity to develop their own. 

 

Workshop #5: Web Page Design Using Publisher (1 Day – 5 PDP’s)

Day: December 12     

Description: Participants will view web page examples and create a student-sample web page using Microsoft Publisher®.  Participants will be guided on how to upload these pages to a private or school site. 

 

Workshop #6: Creating Student Support Materials Using Word and Excel (2 Days – 10 PDP’s)

Days: December 19 and January 9

Description: Participants will use Microsoft Office® to create a variety of student support materials (any documents, templates, spreadsheets that will be used to support student learning in the classroom).  Examples include tests, worksheets, quizzes, rubrics, presentations, etc….  Participants will also be instructed on how to integrate products throughout the Microsoft Office® Suite.  Time will be allotted to share projects between participants.  Projects are due on January 9th. 

 

Cost: Collaborative Members $75       Non-Collaborative Members: $300
