Second Annual Program on
Strategies in Strengthening the Middle
School
Math Curriculum for At-Risk Students
Sponsored by
The Salem State Collaborative
The Salem State Collaborative is again offering its successful series of four full-day workshops targeted for classroom teachers, special education teachers and aides who work with at-risk middle school students. The focus of each workshop will be to review a specific math strand from grade 5 through grade 8, analyze MCAS test items that assess that strand, discuss instructional strategies and discuss support material that is appropriate to deal with the strand.
Participation by a team of teachers from a school is encouraged with the goal being to develop and implement changes in current strategies. Participants will be encouraged to present successful strategies currently working for them and to help develop materials and graphic organizers between sessions that all participants can use.
Participants will access the DOE website to review test items and other support material, as well as receive copies of SmartNotebook lessons for each strand.
