This workshop will concentrate on the Geometry and Measurement Standards found in the Massachusetts Framework for grades 6 –8. This goal will be accomplished by the actual construction of the shapes and figures mentioned in the framework using rulers, compasses, protractors, pattern blocks, tangrams, color tiles, cuisenaire rods, one inch and cm dot paper as well as one inch offset dot paper. We will investigate perimeter, area, surface area, volume, circumference, similar and congruent figures, angles, faces, and edges. Pythagorean as well as Pick’s Theorem will be created, drawn and investigated in great detail. You will need some sharp pencils as well as a box of colored pencils.
