Leisure Studies Concentration

The Leisure Studies concentration prepares students to enter the field of recreation administration and leisure services. The course of study meets the needs of the diverse nature of the profession with content knowledge and practical experience. Courses include program design, management, facilities, and commercial recreation and leisure services within the profession. With faculty guidance, students may pursue a specialization in an area of interest within the field.

Directed Field

Opportunities to gain practical experience in the field of recreation and leisure studies are designed specific to the student's interest and career plans. The student completes a minimum of 120 hours (8 hours per week) at an approved facility under the direction of a recreation specialist. Field experiences at recreational facilities serve as an opportunity to assess the student in an authentic manner. Seminars led by a faculty member are scheduled to allow students to discuss and analyze their professional experiences in the field. Directed field experience is recommended for students as a culminating experience to their academic course of studies.
