Dance Program
The Dance Program at SSC offers offers a new Dance Concentration with a BS degree, plus a Dance Minor. Academic courses include technique in modern dance and ballet, as well as courses in dance history, dance repertory, critical analysis, and dance composition. Through the study of dance, the student will develop technical proficiency, critical thinking skills, and personal artistic voice. Dance is a powerful mode of communication, and enables the student to contribute to a rich cultural experience that connects the immediate community with the global community.

Performance Events
With support from the Center for Creative and Performing Arts and the SMS Dept., we offer an exciting line-up of events each semester. In addition to ongoing free performances, workshops, and master classes by faculty, students, and guest artists, we host world-class choreographers and dance companies at the Mainstage Auditorium, including Ailey II, Taylor 2, Doug Varone and Dancers, Martha Graham Dance Ensemble and more. Additionally, we encourage students to choreograph and perform their choreography under the guidance of the dance faculty. The Dance Program hosts a performance at the end of each semester, where students perform their work.
Presidential Arts Scholarship
These renewable full tuition scholarships are awarded, regardless of financial need, to students who demonstrate outstanding artistic and academic achievements in Art, Creative Writing, Dance, Music, and Theater. Inquiries should be made to the Director of the Center for Creative and Performing Arts, Sullivan Building, Salem State College.
Repertory Dance Theatre
RDT is an active and visible student dance company at SSC. The group consists of about 50 dancers from the college and the local community. Performing at the SSC Mainstage Theatre each semester, the company is organized by students with the support of a faculty advisor.
