applications received after the priority deadline.
Applications for Degree
Applications for degree candidates will be available online through Navigator according
to the following schedule:
· Fall degree candidates beginning June 1
· Spring degree candidates beginning September 1
· Summer degree candidates beginning September 1
To access the graduation application, log into your Navigator account and click on your Academic Home page then choose Apply for Graduation. Please note that the $50 commencement fee will apply regardless of whether or not you plan to attend the commencement ceremony. Charges will be posted to your Navigator account at a later date, so be sure to keep watch over your account.
If you miss the priority application deadline, late applications may be accepted. Late applications are NOT available through your Navigator login. Please see an Academic Services representative in the Registrar’s Office for the hard copy application and assistance. If your late application is accepted payment for the $100 commencement fee must be submitted at the same time.
When applying for graduation, make sure that you select the term in which you expect to complete all degree requirements as your Expected Completion Term. If you will have completed all degree requirements by spring 2013 you will simply select spring 2013 as your “Expected Completion Term.”
PLEASE NOTE: For Summer 2013 applicants, if you wish to participate in the earlier May 2013 commencement ceremony and will have met the Eligibility Criteria to Participate in Commencement Prior to Degree Completion, as noted below, then you must select summer 2013 as your Expected Completion Term and May 2013 as your graduation ceremony term.
IMPORTANT: Students who will complete ALL degree requirements by August 2013 AND will wait until May 2014 to participate in the commencement ceremony OR will not be attending any commencement ceremony will select May 2014 as their ceremony term, regardless.
Information about the ceremony, graduation tickets, senior week activities, and caps and gowns will be forthcoming during the spring semester. Information will be updated at salemstate.edu/commencement. Please keep your permanent postal and email addresses and telephone information updated in Navigator to ensure that you do not miss any important information that may be sent to you throughout the spring semester regarding your graduation status.
Eligibility Criteria to Participate in Commencement Prior to Degree Completion
(also known as “walking”, or “permission to walk” in the ceremony)
Undergraduate students:
· Must have 12 or fewer credits to complete as of the end of the spring 2013 term
· Must have a 2.000 or above cumulative GPA at the end of the fall 2012 term
· Must plan to complete all remaining degree requirements in the summer 2013 term
· Must register for all remaining courses for summer by Friday, April 5, 2013
Graduate students:
· Must have 8 or fewer credits to complete as of the end of the spring 2013 term
· Must have a 3.000 or above cumulative GPA at the end of the fall 2012 term
· Must plan to complete all remaining degree requirements in the summer 2013 term
· All non-course requirements (theses, portfolios, comps, etc.) must be complete
Not attending the commencement ceremony held in May? These students will have their diploma mailed. Students who complete their degree requirements in the spring will receive their diploma in the mail by late July; those who complete in the summer will receive their diploma in the mail by late October; and those who complete in December will receive their diploma in the mail by late March.

Commencement information will be mailed to all students who have submitted an application for degree during the spring semester. Information will also be posted online on the Commencement website as it becomes available.
