Teacher Job Description
Responsibilities
- Assist Head Teacher in planning, implementing, and supervising curriculum for children 2.9 to 5 years old
- Assist with arrangements, décor, appearance, and learning environment of the classroom under the direction of the Lead Teacher
- Participate in all staff trainings and parent/staff meetings during the year (approx. 4 per semester)
- Act as a teacher-role-model for student teachers, fieldwork students, and teacher assistants.
- Serve as a mentor for new staff as needed
- Assist Head Teacher with observation and documentation of children’s work and development
- Assume an equal share of general clean-up responsibilities and end-of-day classroom set-up, maintaining a safe and creative environment
- Shop monthly or as needed at local store for snack foods and classroom materials
- Assume Head Teacher/Director responsibilities for the six-week summer nature program - includes pay increase with new position
Qualifications
- Meets all Office of Child Care services requirements (medical, references, CORI)
- Completed at least two college-level courses in Child Development or Early Childhood Education
- Meets Lead Teacher/Director requirements for supervising Summer Nature Program
- Experience in studio arts and music desirable
- Familiarity with the Reggio Approach desirable
- At least 1-year recent preschool teaching experience
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (annually)
Shifts/Wages
- Must be available Monday through Friday
- 36 weeks during academic year at 30 hours per week 10:00am - 4:00pm
- Hourly Wage for Teacher position $13.00 - $16.00
- 6-week Summer Nature Program at 30 hours per week, 8:00am - 2:00pm
- Hourly Wage for Summer Teacher position $16.00-$18.00
