Students Of Salem For Peace
~ MAIN PAGE ~ Students Of Salem For Peace is a student group at Salem State College. COMING EVENT - SEPT. 2008: World Peace Day Music FestivalOur Mission Statement
What some people have said about peace
-John Lennon (1940-1980) "Nonviolence means avoiding not only the external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him." -Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968) "Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind... War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today." -John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) "Bullets cannot be recalled. They can not be uninvented. But they can be taken out of the gun." -Marian Anderson (1897-1993) "Better than a thousand hollow words is one word that brings peace." -Buddha (560-483BCE) Excerpts from the group's constitutionHoping our efforts will give rise to a culture of peace at Salem State College, which would be a culture of congeniality, cooperation, honesty, and respect, we pledge to cultivate this culture of peace. We feel if solidarity and camaraderie prevail, then war, killing, and violence will be reduced. If a culture of peace takes root at Salem State, it will eventually further traditions of peace throughout the region, the state, and the world.
