Occupational Therapy Department
Through examination and application of skills in a problem-based and experiential learning format, students will obtain additional skills and knowledge necessary to begin the transition from the role of OTA to the role of OTR. The major focus of the undergraduate curriculum will be to facilitate the students' understanding of the clinical reasoning process and to develop a sound theoretical knowledge base adhering to the foundation of the occupational therapy profession. Once a student has completed the Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Health Studies they will need to complete the Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy to be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination and become Registered Occupational Therapists. If students maintain a grade point average of 3.0 throughout their undergraduate studies they will be directly admitted to the Master of Science Degree Program in Occupational Therapy.
Coursework will generally be offered on a part-time, evening basis. Part-time opportunities for fieldwork will be offered in keeping with the college mission of promoting flexibility while maintaining commitment to continuing education and life-long learning.
