1974 - Albert J. Shimkus, Jr., Captain,
NC, USN (CRNA)
Captain Shimkus has been the Executive Officer of the U.S. Naval Hospital,
Naples, Italy since July of 1997. He has been a nurse anesthetist for
20 years and a Navy Health Care Executive for 5 years. Previous assignments
have included Director of Nursing, U.S. Naval Hospital, Guam: Professor
of National Security Decision Making at the U.S. Naval War College, Newport,
RI; Senior Anesthetist, Fleet Surgical Team Two, Little Creek, VA; Senior
Anesthetist, U.S. Naval Hospital, Newport RI; Ships Anesthetist on board
the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT, CVN 71, the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON, CVN 73
and the USS NIMITZ, CVN 68.
Captain Shimkus has been selected as the next Commanding Officer of the
U.S. Naval Hospital, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
1977 - Kathy J. Fabiszewski PhD. RN.
CS.
Dr. Fabiszewski completed the
MSN program in 1980 at the University of Massachusetts/Lowell, a second
MS in 1993, and a PhD in 1999 at the University of Massachusetts/Boston
Dr. Fabiszewski has served for the past
three years as Coordinator, Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program
at the University of Massachusetts/Boston. She is a board certified Adult
and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in clinical
practice, in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and in
curriculum development at the college level. She is presently conducting
clinical and health policy research in the areas of Alzheimer's Disease,
geriatric practice in a managed care environment, chronic illness, and
psychopharmacology.

1978 - Nancy Ehmke MS. RN. CS.
Nancy Ehmke is currently
the Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at Park View Hospital in Fort Wayne
Indiana, an 800 plus bed health system hospital in northeast Indiana.
In her current position, she is conducting research entitled, "Perceptions
of Pain Management: Patients and Health Care Providers", and she has
presented it at the University of St. Francis Research Colloquium. In
addition, Nancy holds a certification as an Advanced Oncology Nurse from
the Oncology Nursing Society. Recently, she received an award as the Cancer
Control Volunteer of the Year by the Indiana Division of the American
Cancer Society. Nancy has been inducted into the Salem State College Athletic
hall of Fame for her skills as a volley ball player. She is married
and has two daughters, Natalie 5 and Stephanie 3.
