Policies

Academic Policies

Nursing majors who receive a C- or lower in a prerequisite science course (BIO 105, BIO 200, BIO 201, BIO 304, CHE 124, CHE 125), will be permitted to repeat the course one time. If a student fails to achieve a grade of C or higher in the repeated course, the student must withdraw from the Nursing Major. A student may not repeat more than two prerequisite science courses. This policy applies to Nursing majors and transfer students requesting entry into the Nursing Major.

Students must receive a grade of C or higher in all Nursing courses. A student may repeat a failed Nursing course only once. A second failure of the same course mandates withdrawal from the Nursing major. Nursing majors may not repeat more than two nursing courses.

Additional Requirements for Nursing Majors
Uniforms and Testing

• Uniforms must be purchased prior to the second semester, sophomore year.
• Nametags/SSC Identification
• SSC Identification/Clipper Card
• Clinical Facility ID Cards
  Consult with your Clinical Instructor regarding specific facility requirements.
• During the course of the program, several standardized tests may also be required. A fee is charged for these tests with the tuition bill.

Clinical requirements

• Nursing majors must be prepared to provide their own transportation to clinical agencies.
• Nursing Majors will be expected to purchase
• liability insurance (available through SSC)
• health insurance, and
• equipment needed in the clinical area

Health requirements

• An updated physical exam on file in the Health Services Office prior to entrance to the first clinical nursing course (NUR212A)
• Documentation that immunization status and testing is current:
• TD within 10 years,
• MMR booster or titre,
• positive Chicken Pox titre or vaccine series,
• Hepatitis B, and
• annual TB screening.

CORI (Criminal Offenders Record Inquiry) Requirements

Students will be required to complete a CORI (Criminal Offenders Record Inquiry) prior to entry into clinical courses.

CPR Certificate

It is expected that once students begin clinical practica that they will attain professional level CPR certification and will maintain that certification throughout their program.
