Announcement from President Meservey
January 5, 2017
Dear Salem State Community,
Over the past 10 years it has been a great privilege to serve as President of Salem State University and be part of its extraordinary community of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends. It has been the capstone of my higher education career, complete with the wonderful accomplishments we have achieved together on campus, in Salem, and throughout the North Shore and the Commonwealth.
As I reflect on our many shared successes, I have made the difficult decision to retire from my role as the university’s president. My decision is both professional and personal. I believe our university is strong and that it is the right time for a new president to lead. I am also looking forward to new adventures.
I anticipate that this transition will take place over the summer of 2017, however, I am committed to remaining in the presidency until my successor arrives on campus.
Paul Mattera, Chair of our Board of Trustees, will be emailing you next week to outline the process for identifying Salem State’s next president. I hope you will embrace this process and work with our Board to find the best candidate for our community.
In the months ahead, we will have opportunities to continue moving our work forward, to think about the future, and to reminisce about all we have achieved together. Thank you for the amazing opportunity to serve as your president, and for all you have done to make this institution one that I have been proud to serve for the past decade. It has been an incredible journey, and I know our talented and committed Salem State community will ensure the university’s continued success moving forward.
