Tom Torello named vice president of marketing and communications
Salem State University recently welcomed Tom Torello as vice president of marketing and communications. Torello, who possesses strong credentials in both the higher education and marketing arenas, fills a key leadership role and will be responsible for promoting the university’s regional and national profile through innovative branding, the development of a strong marketing platform and strategic institutional positioning.
Salem State president Patricia Maguire Meservey, in announcing Mr. Torello’s appointment, underscored the importance of the position to the university. “The addition of Tom Torello in this position,” she said, “emphasizes the importance we are placing on disseminating the compelling story of our evolving and dynamic institution to target audiences that include future students, the regional business community, and the citizens of the North Shore and beyond, among others.
“Tom is joining Salem State’s senior administration at an ideal time in the growth of the university and I have every confidence that his extensive background in higher education marketing will be an asset in our efforts.”
Commenting on his appointment, Torello noted that “This is a great time to be joining Salem State. There are so many positive things happening and so many great stories to tell about the success of our students that from a marketing perspective it’s the ideal situation to come into. I am pleased to be part of the outstanding team President Meservey has assembled here.”
Torello comes to Salem State University from New York State, where he was most recently vice president of university relations at Pace University. Prior to that, he served as director of marketing for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and as executive director of marketing communications for Ithaca (NY) College.
Mr. Torello received his bachelor’s degree in communications from Ithaca College, and completed a management development program at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. He is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education
