Salem State Series set to bring Anderson Cooper and
Bobby Valentine to campus

Popular journalist and television host and Red Sox’s new manager will highlight
the public lecture series’ 30th season

February 8, 2012 (updated March 29), Salem, Mass.—Salem State University’s popular public lecture series, which this year celebrates 30 years of bringing nationally and internationally recognized statesmen and –women, sports legends, best-selling authors, researchers, adventurers, and others to its North Shore campus, today announced its speakers for 2012.

On Tuesday, May 1 (NEW DATE), renowned investigative journalist, author and television host Anderson Cooper will take the O’Keefe Center stage, followed on Thursday, November 8, by new Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine. Mr. Valentine will appear in conversation with noted baseball journalist Peter Gammons.

Through his live, on-the-ground reports from Iraq, Afghanistan and the hurricane ravaged Gulf Coast and his deft skills moderating both Republican and Democratic presidential candidate debates, CNN’s Anderson Cooper has earned America’s trust as an unbiased and eloquent journalist whose reports reveal the depth of his research and capture both the humanity—and inhumanity—of man.

Bobby Valentine, who replaced longtime manager Terry Francona in December 2011, is the storied team’s 45th manager. When his own playing days ended, Valentine distinguished himself as a manager, leading the New York Mets to a 97–66 record and a wild card playoff berth in 1999. The baseball guru eventually turned his sights to sports journalism, making his broadcast debut as a baseball analyst for ESPN during the 2009 American and National League Championship Series and World Series.

Valentine will be joined on stage by noted sportswriter and baseball journalist Peter Gammons, a three-time recipient of the National Sportswriter of the Year Award, voted annually by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Tickets

Ticket prices range from $10 for students to $100 for inner circle seating that includes a post-lecture reception with Mr. Anderson. Other categories are available for $20 (general admission), $50 and $80 per person.
