There are two additional courses for mathematics majors being offered during Fall 2008.
They are:
| MAT 218 | Introduction to Mathematical Computing | 1cr. |
| (2826) 01 | F 10:00-10:50 SB 311 | Boucher, Christopher |
| An introduction to a computer algebra system.
Topics include the application of a computer algebra system to plotting
functions, solving equations, simplifying expressions, and the creation of
clear and attractive mathematical reports. One lecture hour per week.
Prerequisite: MAT 220. |
||
| MAT 234 | Introduction to Mathematical Proof | 3cr. |
| (2827) 01 | TR 2:00-3:15 SB 305A | Kasman, Reva S. |
| An introduction to mathematical proof and the fundamental notions of higher mathematics. Topics include the basics of propositional logic, set theory, mathematical induction, functions, equivalence relations, and cardinality with an emphasis on writing proofs. Three lecture hours per week. Prerequisite: MAT 220. | ||
The courses listed above will count as mathematics major electives.
If you have already taken MAT 420, Special Problems Seminar, in the fall of 2007 with Dr. Pedro Poitevin, then you may not take MAT 234 for credit.
The Mathematics department has directed the Registrar’s office to count these courses appropriately in your major.
You do not have to obtain an individual letter for your academic file.
