Who is this program for?
It is for everybody who wishes to learn the language and the culture by immersing themselves in a Spanish speaking country.
Where is Oviedo?
The program takes place at the Universidad de Oviedo in Oviedo, Spain, an old city which 1000 years ago was the capital of the Christian Spain (see the map of Asturias below).
Currently Oviedo is the capital of Asturias, a region in the north of Spain. It is an elegant city with several cultural and sports facilities. It is placed in the center of the region between valleys and mountains, 30 minutes from the Cantabric coast.

What courses can I take?
Intensive language and culture at three different levels: Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced. Classes run from Monday to Friday, from 9:30am to 2:00pm. Three hours will be dedicated to grammar, vocabulary, composition, reading, writing, phonetics and conversation. A daily hour will be dedicated to seminars or lectures about Spanish cultural aspects: art, history, politics, economy. Maximum of 15 students per group.

Cultural and Recreational Activities
There will be excursions every Saturday to visit the most attractive and interesting places in the region (they will last the whole day and will be free of charge). Welcome and farewell parties.
Lectures and cultural and recreational visits. Other possibilities in the city and in near towns and villages: sports, museums, exhibitions, concerts, lectures, typical festivities, etc.

How much does it cost?
Tuition: 600 euros for six credits (calculate current dollar value). It includes lessons, course books, certificate, accident insurance, welcome and farewell parties, excursions and other cultural and recreational activities.
Accommodation: 400 at the university's residence hall, with a private room and bathroom.

What academic credits will I get?
Salem State College will transfer 6 credits of Spanish language study:
- 6 credits at the elementary level (the equivalent of SPN101-102)
- 6 credits at the intermediate level (SPN201-202 or equivalent)
- 6 credits at the transitional level (e.g. SPN351-Advanced Conversation and SPN350-Advanced Grammar) or equivalent
