What does the French program offer?

  • French Minor (15 credits): The minor consists of any 5 language courses above the elementary 100-level; usually 201-202 and three other advanced courses
  • Bachelor of Liberal Studies: A self-designed BLS degree in French Studies
  • Faculty willing to assist and advise you in all phases of your studies
  • Study abroad opportunities: Study for a semester or year at the Université de Caen in France, or for five weeks during the summer at the Université Laval in Québec, Canada, or at any other program offered through the study abroad consortium
  • Language Resource Center with state-of-the-art technology to assist you in language learning (Meier Hall 204A)
  • French activities on and off campus: French Film Series, French Club, cultural events, volunteer projects, trips, French conversation hour, etc.
  • A multicultural community in which to learn French, including French-speaking international students and community members
  • Assistance in finding internship opportunities: Summer internships or a one-year teaching assistantship in France after you graduate
  • Graduate school advising for those interested in pursuing graduate degrees

Summer Study in Québec City
Early July - Early August (5 weeks)
at the Université Laval
Six credits in French language and culture for students at the beginning through advanced levels. Orientation and assistance by a Salem State professor on site at the beginning of the program. Approximate cost (tuition, room, board): $1500.
