Although a 3-yr nursing curriculum was proposed by the VNA, the Ministry of Health approved only a 2 1/2 yr program. As explained to me by Ms. Loan (center), Vice-President of the VNA, and the nursing school director, this essentially eliminated the public health curricula by approving only 15 hours for primary health care, I.e. Immunizations. |

A limited number of nursing books
are available in the hospital but are in English. The only nursing
text that students have is a translated 6th edition of med/surg
by Brunner. This was done with the aid of the Swedish International
Development Agency (SIDA) and costs approximately $3 USD. Ms. Loan repeats like a mantra, "We need a good nursing fundamentals text written in vietnamese"! |
