Hoi An

Cyclos (pedicabs) race through the streets of
Hoi An.

Vietnam is an inexpensive vacation for New Zealanders and Australians. It only costs about 5,000 dong (38 cents) to get a ride to the other side of town. Of course, they will always try to charge you double. We found walking away works wonders.

Many of Hoi An's buildings are older styles rarely seen today.

This Japanese Bridge was built in 1593 when
Hoi An was a river port used by the Japanese and Chinese for trading with foreigners. Unfortunately, the river silted up in the late19th century and trade was forced to move to Danang.

An old woman washes her dishes on her front doorstep just off a main street.
A basketmaker cures her baskets on the banks of the Thu Bon River.

This platform is used for fishing above the Thu Bon River (Cai River) in Hoi An.

Can anyone tell me how this structure is used and what kind of fish they are after?
