Master of Social Work (MSW)
In 1987 Salem State College became the first public institution of higher education in Massachusetts to offer an MSW program. The School's faculty and staff are proud of the creation of an MSW program and curriculum that continues to distinguish itself with regard to both quality and reputation. In the MSW program at Salem State, you will find faculty who are simultaneously committed to teaching, advisement, practice, scholarship, and community service. You will be encouraged and challenged to integrate your understanding of both "micro" and "macro" forces as you learn to work with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations.
Our 250 students represent a diverse group of adult learners who are engaged in the study of social work theory and practice in the classroom and in their field education placements. The school offers both full time and extended time study plans in an effort to accommodate the varied work and family demands of our student body.
Advanced Standing students (BSW required) need to submit all application materials by December 31 for admission the following May. Applicants for the general program need to submit all application materials by February 15 for admission the following September.
Salem State College School of Social Work is fully accredited by the Counsel on Social Work Education.
