Counseling & Psychological Services

The practice of Counseling involves a professional relationship between a trained Counselor and one or more clients. The effective Counselor brings to the interaction a comprehensive background that includes an understanding of human behavior and a broad knowledge of the helping relationship. Salem State College trains students in these areas by exposing them to a wide variety of frameworks and by allowing considerable flexibility in devising programs of study that reflect the student's own interests and goals.

The Master's Program in Counseling and Psychological Services consists of three specializations:

Upon successful program completion, all students are eligible for licensure as Mental Health Counselors, no matter what their specialization. Students in Marriage and Family are eligible for licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists.

Students may enroll full or part-time. To accommodate busy schedules, classes are offered all year (Fall, Spring, Summer I & II) in the evening. The program coordinator works with each student to set-up an optimum schedule. Our graduate programs are very reasonably priced, and financial aid is available. SSC Counseling programs are in compliance with Massachusetts regulations. Passing the state licensure exam enables graduates to practice professionally.
