MINORS IN ENGLISH:
·
Comprehensive
· Writing
· Dramatic Literature
COMPREHENSIVE
(18 Credits)
Required:
Literature sequence plus four (4) ENG electives.
If you
decide to declare English as a minor without indicating any further
specialization, you should take six (6) ENG courses numbered 200 or higher, for
a total of 18 credits. Of the six
courses, two (2) should make up a literature sequence and the remaining four
may be chosen from any English electives.
You may not count Composition, Basic Writing, or ESL courses toward this
minor.
One of the
attractions of the Comprehensive English Minor is that you may use your core requirement literature sequence
credits toward the minor. (If you
elect to use the same literature sequence to fulfill both requirements, you
will need to take other course work to meet the college minimum of 126 credits
to graduate.)
A
Comprehensive English minor allows you to elect a wide variety of courses
according to your own interests. An
aspiring poet might want to take creative writing courses such as ENG300,
Creative Writing, and ENG413, Creative Writing Workshop: Poetry, along with surveys of poetry,
such as ENG291, Introduction to Poetry, or ENG390, Poetry I, and ENG391, Poetry II.
Another
student might want to sample a wide range of department offerings; a course in
Arthurian literature, another in modern British fiction, maybe a course in
Kerouac, and another in science fiction.
You could use courses such as African American Literature I and II for
the literature sequence.
** The Comprehensive English Minor allows you to be
flexible.
It
allows you to choose from a wide variety of courses.
