An integral facet of teacher preparation is on-site fieldwork, where you'll learn firsthand from education professionals and get to observe and participate in the dynamics of the classroom. Fieldwork is a component of most basic Education courses, and culminates in a semester-long practicum in your Junior year. Placement can be made at one of the three elementary schools associated with SSC, or at an approved site of your choice. Please pay particular attention to the timeline in Licensure, as there co-requisites needed to satisfy both licensure and practicum placement.

| SSC Laboratory Schools |
|
We host four laboratory schools where you may complete field work at any level of your program, from introductory observation experience to full-time student teaching. Our Pre-School and the Horace Mann Lab School are located on campus, with the Saltonstall School a few blocks away. You may request placements at these schools depending on course and certification requirements. Specific teachers within these schools are designated Laboratory School Supervisors with special responsibilities for our Education students.

If you qualify, you may complete one-half of your student teaching practicum in Yorkshire England. Under the direction of faculty from both SSC and Bradford College in the U.K., this is a state-approved program for licensure in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, or Secondary Education.
