Center for Economic Education
The goals of the Center for Economic Education at Salem State College are:
- To raise the economic literacy of public school teachers
- To encourage teachers to include economic concepts in their classrooms
- To acquaint teachers with readily available resources
Over the years, the center has organized programs in dozens of communities north of Boston. In the summer of 2005, through the Massachusetts Department of Education, we offered a Summer Content Institute [PDF 101KB] entitled, "Viewing the People and Places in the Commonwealth through an Economic Looking Glass." Fifteen Massachusetts teachers completed the Institute, which took place at SSC.
During AY 2006 – 2007, the Center for Economic Education
- Was granted formal re-affiliation with the NCEE, the National Council on Economic Education.
- Sponsored a team from Salem State College to compete in the Fed Challenge, a New England competition among colleges at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Our team beat some prestigious colleges in the first round
- The Director, Dr. Siden, and two members of the Economics Club, Isaiah Hull and Charles Doherty, served as judge and scorers for a high school competition at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in March 2007
