At the start of the semester we were privileged to have our new president, Dr. Patricia Maguire Meservey, join us at an all-staff meeting – the Office of the CIO, Information Technology, and Telecommunications. Dr. Meservey addressed the crucial role played by IT in higher education and also took a few questions and comments from those attending. Expanding on her remarks, I announced the area's theme for the year – communication. Better communication among each other, between our teams, among our peers, and between us and our clients.
Communication may seem like too basic a choice – after all, aren't we actually over-communicating on a daily basis by email, the phone, the web, and in-person? But when you think about it, you know how many problematic situations you've encountered which have stemmed from a lack of effective communication.
