The CTI can assist with putting almost anything onto the web (audio, video, text, images), provided it does not violate the college's copyright policy. Just because we can get it onto the web, doesn't mean your students will be able to access it! There is always a trade-off between quality and size, so we will discuss technical contraints related to your project.
Scanning Articles: The CTI has a HP Document Sender that will scan up to 50 pages, create a PDF, and e-mail it to you as an attachment. You can then upload the attachment to your WebCT course or print it for your class. We can help you determine if the article you wish to use needs copyright clearance and ensure that your use of it does not violate SSC policy.
Creating WebPages: Did you know that you can use Microsoft Word to create and save webpages? It's true! Just create the document as you normally would in Word, then go to the FILE mene, select SAVE AS, and in the SAVE AS TYPE field select WEBPAGE.
Want something more sophisticated? If you are just beginning to enjoy creating webpages you might want to try NVU. NVU (pronounced N-view) is a FREE multilingual, multiplatform (Linux, Mac, Windows) web page editing program. You can create your pages in Nvu then upload them using Nvu to your website. http://www.nvu.com/index.php
Need more? The CTI supports DreamWeaver, a very high-end, sophisticated, somewhat complicated, web page editing and web site management program. Not for the faint of heart. If you are just starting, this would be like driving a tank over a nail instead of using a hammar.
Presentations/Simulations/Software Demos: We support, use, and offer workshops in Adobe Captivate. Captivate is one of the most widely used authoring programs in e-learning today. Captivate can be used to narrate PowerPoints, create demonstrations of software programs and full-scale, professional simulations. You can create tests and quizzes for your students within Captivate within the software demonstrations and simulations.
Web Tools:
CTI continues to explore and offer assitance with a variety of tools that allow for greater communication, analysis and collaboration in your teaching. The tools cited on this webpage are offered as examples. We are working with IT to provide...
GoogleDocs: Google docs are completely free and offer online tools for word processing and spreadsheets that rival Microsoft. Best of all, you can share these documents in a variety of ways, controlling who can view and edit them.
Podcasting: Want to start podcasting? Podomatic offers podcast hosting for free. You can get 500MB of storage and 15GB of bandwidth per month for FREE. You can go PRO for $10.00 Month for more storage and bandwidth. The website is a little slow, but works just fine.
Blogging:
Geotagging: Geotagging is the process of adding information such as latitude and logitude to images or other artifacts and sharing the artifacts through a website that allows the sharing of information via the metadata. Here is a site about sharing field trips via geotagging.
