Intensive Institutes Produce Results
In 2007-2008 CTI received rave reviews for its intensive institutes in Stimulating Simulations, Advanced Online Course Design, and Laptop Bootcamp (see sidebar).
This year CTI is offering four full weeks of intensive institutes, including two totally new topics!
Jan 5-9: Hybrid Courses
Hybrid courses are those courses that meet face-to-face half of the time and complete the remaining course work online. Hybrids enjoy all the benefits of traditional and new online teaching techniques, but can often be more difficult to design and teach than either fully online or totally face-to-face courses. Come discuss strategies for balancing hybrid course designs and learn tools and techniques for success in your course.
March 16-20: Advanced Online Course Design
Participants will develop their own agenda for the exploration of new teaching tools and methods. The week will begin with an overview of potential technologies and teaching methods. Participants will go online and evaluate their own and 2 other course designs. Based on course design evaluations each participant will set up his/her own agenda for the final days of the seminar. Thursday and Friday will consist of workshops and presentations that you chose as well as independent supported work time with technical and instructional design support at your beck and call.
May 26-29: Web 2.0 Institute (W2i)
What is Web 2.0 and how has it changed the teaching landscape? The web has evolved into a vast array of tools for collaboration, connecting with peers, sharing and creating personal learning environments. You may have heard of wikis, blogs and podcasts, but do you know about mash-ups, Ning, Frapper and Dodgeball? Come Learn, explore and discuss how we can better connect with each other and our students.
June 8-12: Laptop Basics Camp
Entering is sixth year, Laptop Basics offers an overview of laptop hardware and software. Faculty get an opportunity to learn tips and tricks for keeping the computer up to date, file management, data back-up, safe web browsing, efficient use of MS Office, e-mail secrets, etc. We also take time to discuss best practices and policies for laptop use in and out of class.
Applications for all programs will be distributed by mid October.
