Audio Related Services

The Center for Teaching Innovation can help you integrate audio into your classroom and online teaching using a variety of tools.

audio recorders: CTI has traditional audio cassette recorders and MP3 player/recorders that faculty can borrow. We can help you record yourself, your students, presentations, etc. We can then help edit and save the audio file for use on the Web, CDs, or DVDs or for inclusion in multimedia projects.

audio editing: We can capture audio off of CDs, DVDs, cassettes or help you record it. We can help you determine if the audio you wish to use needs copyright clearance and ensure that your use of it does not violate SSC policy.

Audacity (free): The CTI uses and recommends audacity for audio recording and editing. Audacity is a free audio capture and editing program that works on PCs and Macs. You can record and edit stereo files or mono files and save them in sevwral different formats. While not as powerful as high-end editing software, it gives you all the basics at a great price- free.

Cleaner: We use and recommend Autodesk Cleaner for saving audio for the web and multimedia projects. Cleaner can save audio in virtually any format: Real Media, Windows Media, MP3, WAV, AIFF, etc.

Captivate: Interested in adding sound to your PowerPoint Presentations? We recomment Captivate. Captivate is easy to use and includes built-in audio editing and recording. Captivate will import your PPT slides, you then record your narraction in Captivate and export the entire thing as a Flash file. Flash is much smaller than a narrated PowerPoint and will play on any computer with the free Flash plug-in. Assume roughly 1 MB per 90 seconds of narrated presentation. We suggest breaking online presentations into 10 minute chunks or smaller.

audio production: We can save your audios for the web, burn them to CDs, create DVDs or save them for multimedia projects.
