See what’s new on campus, experience our quality programing, and learn what is available to Salem residents at the university. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Open House Kick Off

Atrium, Classroom Building, Central Campus

Executive Vice President Stanley Cahill will welcome you to campus. Check in at the welcome table in the atrium of the classroom building to pick up a full schedule of events and learn about raffle items.

 

12:30 – 4 pm

Salem State Community Fair

Atrium, Classroom Building, Central Campus

Visit the community fair to learn more about what’s available to you as a Salem resident and what is scheduled to happen on campus this year. Exhibits will feature: Admissions, Alumni Affairs, Athletics, Center for Creative and Performing Arts, Center for International Education, Explorers Lifelong Learning Institute, School of Continuing and Professional Studies, School of Graduate Studies, Veterans Affairs and more.

Lifebridge Drop-Off Location

Atrium, Classroom Building, Central Campus

One of the university’s community partners, Lifebridge’s mission is to end the crisis of homelessness. To achieve this ambitious goal, they deliver a suite of essential services on their Seeds of Hope Campus, including transitional beds, permanent housing, community meals, day services, and programmatic offerings. Lifebridge accepts donations of goods for their shelter, meals program, and thrift shop. Stop by the Lifebridge Drop-Off Location to learn more about their programs, to drop off an item, or to learn about volunteer opportunities. Click here to see what donated goods are useful to Lifebridge.

Center for Childhood and Youth Studies Open House and Presentations by Yvonne M. Vissing

Horace Mann School

Presentations will include: Benefits of Mindfulness and Parenting, Mental Illness and Children, Kids and Media, and Preventing Child Abuse.

Editor Gayle Fischer and other faculty contributors will be present to discuss the latest and past issues of this exquisite faculty publication. Be sure to stop by and pick up a copy.

Custom design your own fish tank in this open activity. We provide fish, plastic mini fish tanks, brightly colored rocks, plants, and food to get your fish started in its new home!

Hora de cuentos bilingues con Sandra Yudilevich Espinoza

 

Bilingual Story Hour with Sandra Yudilevich Espinoza

Room 204, Marsh Hall, Central Campus

A todos los ninos les encanta escuchar cuentos leidos. Venga a juntarse con Sandra y escucharla leer cuentos en Espanol y en Ingles. Recomendado para ninos hasta de 6 anos, aunque ninos de todas edades estan invitados.

 

Everyone loves story time. Join Sandra to hear entertaining stories in Spanish and English. Recommended for children through age 6, but children of all ages welcome.

College 101 with Lauren Bishop

Would you like to apply to college but are unsure of the process? This session is for students and parents who are new to the college search and application process. Admissions counselor Lauren Bishop will review basic information on applying to colleges including admissions requirements, deadlines, definition of acronyms used, and basic financial aid information.

Le gustaria aplicar a la Universidad pero esta inseguro del proceso? Esta sesión es para los estudiantes y padres quienes son nuevos a la busqueda de una Universidad y el proceso de aplicación. La Consejera de Admisión, Niki Freeman revisara informaciónes básicas en como aplicar a una Universidad incluyendo los requisitos, plazos, definiciónes de siglas, y información básica sobre asistencia financier.

Beginner’s Yoga with Meghan McLyman

Dance Studio, O’Keefe Center Complex

This class will offer an introduction to the basic elements of the yoga practice including a focus on breath, poses, and meditation. Geared for the beginner and open to all age levels. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in; jeans and skirts are not recommended. Yoga mats, blocks, and straps are provided.

Peace Studies Field Work in Liberia Presentation by Greg Carroll

Room 113, Classroom Building, Central Campus

Dr. Carroll will present on his work with faculty and students and the Liberian Peacebuilder Initiative. This field work linked students from Salem State and the Kofi Annan Institute of Conflict Transformation (KAICT) at the University of Liberia with members from the Traditional Council of Liberia, the Tribal Governors Association of Liberia, and religious communities around Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, on a collaborative peace building initiative that had Salem State and KAICT students functioning as participants and researchers.

Stop by this open activity and make a working instrument with the Center for the Creative and Performing Arts.

Decorate Your Own Cookie & Cupcake*

Atrium, Classroom Building, Central Campus

Chartwells, the university’s catering vendor, welcomes children of all ages to this open activity where you can decorate a cookie, cupcake or both with Salem State colors.

The Storyteller’s Collective

Room 111, Classroom Building, Central Campus

The Storyteller’s Collective, founded in the fall of 2010, is an award-winning art collective whose projects range from animation, narrative and non-fiction film, fine arts, fashion and theatre. Members have won awards in commercial fields, film festivals, theatre and fine arts. Join Salem State student- and alumni-members Kevin Walunas, Alex Williams, Jesse Henderson and Michael Choueiri for a presentation of their films and a question and answer session on DIY independent filmmaking. Some film clips may include adult content.

2 – 3 pm

Drumming from India with Peter Kvetko

Room 275, Classroom Building, Central Campus

Discover the tabla, a hand drum used in traditional music from India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Learn how to recite a basic rhythm cycle, identify it when listening to a recording of the famous sitar player Ravi Shankar, and then play the pattern on the tabla yourself.

Library staff will give an overview of print and electronic sources as well as resource guides and databases that are available at our library. Staff will also review library access for members of the Salem community and the services provided to the community by our librarians.

Meet Salem State's Sally Bowles and get a sneak peek of the upcoming performance of Cabaret, directed by professor Peter Sampieri. Discussion with the director, musical director, and actress to follow.
