Laptop Requirement

Most students at Salem State College are required to purchase a laptop computer. Please review the Communications Department's laptop recommendation.

Communications Lab

The Communications Department operates two computer labs in Meier Hall 218 and Meier Hall 219. When a class is not scheduled in one of the labs, open lab time is available. Please check the signs outside each lab for exact open lab hours.

Each lab is equipped with Macintosh computers and desktop publishing software for the students to use to design full color ads, brochures, newsletters and presentations. During open lab times, Communication students can work on their projects and assignments and hang out with other communications students and faculty between classes.

Student Organizations

The student newspaper, The Log, recruits students to work in the areas of reporting, editing, layout and advertising. Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and American Advertising Federation (AAF), both affiliated with national organizations, also recruit students to participate in student competitions, sponsor fundraising events, and take advantage of networking opportunities within the communications fields.
