2006 Graduate Commencement Speaker – Robert Norton

North Shore Medical Center president and CEO Robert G. Norton received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Salem State College at the school's 2006 graduate Commencement exercises, held Thursday, May 18, in the O'Keefe Sports Center.

Norton also addressed graduates and their families at the ceremonies, using sailing metaphors to describe the paths their futures may take. Norton has spent much of his career in the Boston area, having served as executive vice president at Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center from 1996 to1998 and as president of New England Deaconess Hospital from 1995 to 1996. He also was a senior vice president at New England Baptist Hospital from 1991 to 1994.
