Salem State Professor Named Dean

SALEM, Mass., Dec. 12, 2005-Mary-Lou Breitborde, of Swampscott, was recently named associate dean of the School of Education at Salem State College.
A professor at Salem State for 16 years, Breitborde received her undergraduate degree at Wheaton College in sociology, and her master's and doctorate at Boston University in humanistic and behavioral studies.
"The School of Education has a strong reputation in the region and in the state. My intention is to make it even more famous," said Breitborde, who was chairperson of the education department for nine years. She went on to say, "I am very proud to be associated with the School of Education.
Breitborde has always had a strong interest in the relationship of school to the community and in culture and learning. She is co-author of two publications with Louise Swiniarski of the education department. Their first is called "Educating the Global Village" and their most recent is entitled "Teaching on Principle and Promise."
