Salem State Campus Police Walk in Support of MADD
"Strides for Change" Walk Raises Nearly $50,000

SALEM, Mass., Oct. 28, 2005-Salem State College's campus police were among those taking part in the recent Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Strides for Change walk in Boston. As a result of their efforts, and those of so many others, MADD raised just under $50,000.
Strides for Change is MADD's community-driven 5K walk that raises funds and awareness for MADD's programs and services. MADD is a non-profit grass roots organization with approximately 600 chapters nationwide. Its mission is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of drunk driving and prevent underage drinking.
The Salem State campus police contingent included Insp. Joe Dunn, Sgt. Dean Bruno, Sgt. Dennis Luti, Ofc. Sean Lawson, Ofc. Kellie Barhight, Sgt. Rich Sherry and Det. Sgt. Vincent O'Connell.
"We had five walkers and two volunteers from our department," said Dunn. He went on to say, "The SSC police department raised close to $1,000, which is wonderful."
Salem State College is a comprehensive, publicly-supported institution of higher learning located 21 miles north of Boston. It enrolls approximately 9,400 undergraduate and graduate students representing 27 states and 52 nations. Salem State College is the fifth largest public institution of higher education and the largest state college in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
