College Reschedules Athletic Field Ceremony
SALEM, Mass., Oct. 21, 2005-A rededication ceremony for the newly refurbished Alumni Field at Salem State College has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. and will take place on the field at the O'Keefe Sports Center.
There will be a breakfast reception prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will take place at 11:30. Originally scheduled as part of the college's homecoming activities, the ceremony was postponed due to weather conditions.
"The new field is a rubber and sand filled artificial surface," said Athletic Director Tim Shea. "Studies show that athletes have fewer injuries on this surface and it improves play for our field hockey and soccer players because the ball is able to bounce more predictably."
"The field looks great," Shea continued, "and we have a new ticket booth, press box, grandstands, and a softball field." The Alumni Field dedication will be followed by the women's field hockey game against Keene State College at 12 p.m.
For more information on the ceremony, call Alumni Affairs at (978) 542-7530.
