SALEM, MASS. - Phyllis LeBlanc, of Bradford, president and CEO of Harbor Sweets in Salem, was recently appointed to the Salem State College Assistance Corporation.
The Assistance Corporation was formed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to oversee The Enterprise Center, home to 27 small start-up businesses on the college's Central Campus. It is a business incubator for North Shore entrepreneurs.
As a member of the Assistance Corporation, LeBlanc said, "We will be helping to build businesses in the Salem and North Shore region. I feel that the Enterprise Center bringing its business plan competition to the North Shore is also a great way to get businesses involved."
In 1995, LeBlanc, 1982 graduate of the college, received the School of Business distinguished alumna award and has been involved with the advisory board for the department ever since.
After completing an internship at Harbor Sweets with previous owner Ben Strohecker, who is also a degree recipient from Salem State, LeBlanc continued working there. In 1998, she worked at management level and then purchased the company from Strohecker for $500,000 and became President and CEO. Harbor Sweets is located on Leavitt Street in Salem.
