Swampscott's Anne Driscoll receives Salem State College Distinguished Alumnus Award

SALEM - Journalist Anne Driscoll of Swampscott received Salem State College's 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award during a ceremony held on Saturday, June 11.
A magna cum laude graduate of the college in 1976, Driscoll is the author of the self-help book series "Girl to Girl" and is a contributing writer to People and Teen People magazines. She also works with the college's social work and education departments to research the impact of gender on boys and girls in schools. As a consultant and public speaker, Driscoll presents her research results to human service professionals, teachers, parents and children across the country as well as in England and Ireland.
She was a columnist for the Boston Globe from 1990 to 2000, and reporter for the New York Times from 1988 to 1989. Driscoll also teaches journalism and creative writing at North Shore Community College.
At a recent Salem State College Series event, Driscoll was the moderator for Jack and Suzy Welch.
She is president of Arts Resources for the Town of Swampscott and past president of Swampscott United Community Coalition for the Enhancement of Swampscott Schools.
Driscoll is a Massachusetts certified social worker and holds a bachelor of science degree in social welfare from Salem State.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award recognizes an individual who, upon graduation from Salem State College, has distinguished himself or herself and his or her alma mater.
