Local resident recognized as outstanding graduate at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. - Steven L. Antonakes of Ipswich will receive the School of Business Outstanding Graduate Award at Salem State College on Friday, May 6.
Now in its tenth year, the Student/Alumni Networking Social at the Business School honors one of its elite alumni. It also recognizes graduating seniors and provides students and alumni the opportunity to make contacts among the local business community. Past recipients of the Outstanding Graduate Award include Thomas M. Feeley '68, John Galaris '67, Richard Durgan '69, A. James Lavoie '71 and Senator Brian P. Lees '75.
A 1993 graduate of the master's of business administration program at Salem State, Antonakes was appointed by Governor Mitt Romney as the commissioner of the Massachusetts Division of Banks. Employed at the Division of Banks for nearly 14 years, he previously served as the first deputy commissioner of banks. He has held a senior policy-making position with the division since 1995.
Son of retired Salem State College English Professor Michael Antonakes, Steven Antonakes is a graduate of the Lynn Public Schools and holds a bachelor's of arts degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in Law, Policy and Society from Northeastern University. He is also a member of the adjunct faculty at Emmanuel College in Boston.
Antonakes resides in Ipswich with his wife and two sons.
