Local resident wins national competition

SALEM, Mass. - Salem State College senior Michelle Roy, of Buckland, was awarded first place in the National GIS-Cartography-Remote Sensing Undergraduate Research poster competition held at the annual Association of American Geographers conference in Denver on April 7.
A geography major at Salem State College, Roy's poster was entitled Variations in Australia's Vegetation Cover. It illustrated some of the patterns of change found in Australia's land cover from 1999 to 2003.
Roy was also presented the National Council for Geographic Education Award for excellence in geographic studies on April 1 at Salem State College's Geography Department Award Ceremony.
