SALEM – Jesse Ventura, the out-spoken wrestler, actor, author and former governor of Minnesota, is coming to Salem State College.
Ventura will replace Dominick Dunne as the second speaker of the Salem State College Series this season. Dunne cancelled his scheduled March 25 appearance.
Ventura, who will speak at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, is an ideal fit for the Series, according to Karen Cady, director of college relations. "We had a unique opportunity to host a unique personality," said Cady. "He will appeal especially to our students."
In November 1990, the professional-wrestler-turned-actor was elected to a four-year term as mayor of Brooklyn Park , Minnesota , a suburb of Minneapolis . He served for one year and did not run for a second term. In November 1998, Ventura , as a member of the Reform Party, was elected Governor of Minnesota. He believes the two major political parties are being manipulated by special interests. "Candidates are selling themselves to the highest bidder," he wrote in his recently published, "Jesse Ventura Tells It Like It Is."
Tickets for Dunne will be honored at the Ventura event. Additional tickets for Ventura and for the May 4 appearance of actor Christopher Reeve and author Dr. Robin Cook are available by calling the box office at 978-542-7555 or by visiting www.salemstate.edu/series. Those holding tickets to the Dunne event who are seeking refunds should call the Series box office by Friday, March 26.
