SSC non-traditional student wins top national honor

SALEM , Mass. – Kathy-Lynne Shaw, a graduate of Salem State College's continuing education program from Gloucester , has received a top national award.
The University Continuing Education Association located at Central Michegan University has named Shaw its 2004 Outstanding Continuing Education Student, it was announced today. A ceremonial presentation will be made in San Antonio, Texas on April 16.
A graduate of continuing education programs at North Shore Community College and Salem State , Shaw was one of six finalists. She had won the New England top continuing education student award in October, 2003.
At Salem State , Shaw entered a part-time evening program in occupational therapy in 1999. Battling breast cancer since 1998, she overcame severe side effects of aggressive cancer treatments to obtain a bachelor's degree.
