SALEM – Members of the Salem State College community joined students from local schools Monday, Jan. 26 to keep the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. alive.
At the college's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation, four students read their essays on how they can make the slain civil rights leader's message thrive in today's world. The essays were presented by Ione Barrows, a fifth grade student at the Saltonstall School, Megan Wilkens, a seventh grader at the St. Joseph's School, Ivan Rosa, a sophomore at Salem High School and Fatima Abdalla, a Salem State College senior.
The convocation also featured rousing gospel music led by Rev. Randy Hayes and Dr. John Weeks and a personal account by Dr. Richard L. Taylor, a member of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, on his memories of Dr. King.
Arthur T. Gerald, the associate dean of multicultural affairs, hosted the event. For more information, contact Gerald at 978-542-6213.
